Take a Bus to Explore the Arts

Art SignWant to meet other art lovers, keep up with what’s happening in the art world, see innovative historical exhibits, and travel without the hassle of traffic, tolls, and parking?

Then “Get on the Bus” and enjoy the ride!

The NIU Art Museum schedules the trip and makes the itinerary and arrangements. Travelers need only sign up and prepay by the posted deadlines.

All trips depart from the NIU Visual Arts Building parking lot on NIU’s DeKalb campus at the northeast corner of Gilbert and College avenues.

Payment can be made in advance with cash, a check made out to NIU, or a major credit card. Payment must be made in advance to guarantee your seat on the bus. Only checks and exact cash payments are taken on the bus.

John Michael Kohler Art Center
The Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum
The Milwaukee Art Museum
Thursday, January 30

Join us as we visit the Kohler Art Center in Sheboygan to view Chicago artist Ray Yoshida’s home collection. Then explore the vast collection – more than 2 million pieces – of wood type at the Hamilton Type museum in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. We’ll also stop by the Milwaukee Art Museum (they’ll be open late) before we head home. Food and museum entry fees on own. (Hamilton & Kohler – suggested donations; M.A.M – $17 for adults; student/senior citizens, $14 with ID.) Travelers will depart at 7:30 a.m. and arrive back in town at 9:30 p.m. Members: $40; student/senior non-members: $45; all others: $50. Registration and payment deadline is Tuesday, January 28.

Hyde Park Art Center & The University of Chicago
Saturday, March 15

We’ll visit the Hyde Park Art Center first and then go on to The University of Chicago to see what’s going on at the Smart Museum, the Renaissance Society, and the new Logan Center for the Arts. Departure is 9 a.m. with return arrival at 7 p.m. Cost of food on own. Members: $18; student/senior non-members: $22; all others: $25. Registration and payment deadline is Wednesday, March 12.

St. Louis GOTB Overnighter
Thursday, March 27, through Sunday, March 30

We are returning to St. Louis for a tour of museums, buildings, and neighborhoods for our Get-On-The-Bus Overnighter. This is a recap and mix-it-up of our previous successful overnight stays in the delightful town of St. Louis. We’ll be staying at the Moonrise Boutique Hotel in the Delmar Loop neighborhood and touring around town. Call 815-753-1936 for more details.

The House on the Rock – Architecture & Collections

Come see Alex Jordan’s House on the Rock. We’ll see the unique space (including the famous “Infinity Room”) and view his fantastically berserk collections on site. Departure is 8 a.m. with return arrival at 5:30 p.m. Food and museum entry fee is on your own. Trip cost will cover transportation ONLY. House on the Rock (this price includes all collections; prices can be lower if not viewing everything): adults, $28.50; seniors: $26.50.
