NIU License Plates

Thanks to the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office, it’s easy to show your Huskie pride and support NIU student scholarships at the same time.

For just pennies a day, you can put NIU collegiate license plates on your car.

The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office collects additional fees for collegiate license plates and deposits them into scholarship accounts for each state university. The initial fee to purchase the NIU plate costs $40 more than a generic Illinois license plate. Annual renewal of your NIU college license plate adds only $25. NIU plates are available in vanity plates (letters or numbers), personalized plates (letters and numbers) or in randomly selected numbers*.

Thousands of dollars from this program already have been sent to NIU and distributed to students in the past, and the need for this additional scholarship support is greater now than ever. State funding accounts for only 26 percent of NIU’s annual operating revenues.
