“If bad things happen, it isn’t because you’re unlucky. It’s because you’re normal!” says the Rev. John Schmidtke (’68 alumnus).
He has written a humorous book called “Look Back and Laugh!” to recount the crazy things that have happened to him and his family.
“The wonderful thing is that the longer ago it was and the worse it got, the funnier it gets,” he said. “I’m talking about the silly stuff that usually ruins your day – the mistakes, misstatements, accidents, misfortunes, problems. Don’t let them ruin your life!”
He suggests in the book that the past, the downs and ups, can be a real blessing and that maintaining a sense of humor is the key.
“If you can laugh at it, you can live with it,” Schmidtke said.
The book is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Books-a-Million. It can also be downloaded on Kindred, iTunes, Nook and other distributors, as well as nearly 4,000 retail bookstores.
Schmidtke lives in Milwaukee with Diane, his wife of nearly 50 years. They have four adult children and 18 grandchildren. He has worked as a nondenominational ordained minister and was a longtime marketing director in the Milwaukee area.
