Past Summer Events
Thousands of Huskie fans attended NIU Night at U.S. Cellular Field to watch the White Sox play the Houston Astros.
The night began with the “Pride of the Midwest” and the NIU Marching Band performed the national anthem. NIU ROTC cadet Madison Richmond threw out the first pitch, accompanied by our live mascot, Mission.
Also on hand, the world-famous NIU Steel Pan band played outside U.S. Cellular Field and Victor E. Huskie entertained the crowd. After the White Sox beat the Houston Astros 4-3, fans enjoyed a phenomenal fireworks show.
Alumni and friends watched the Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 Friday night and met top-notch NIU students participating in the McKearn Fellows Program, which is supported by donors John and Cassandra McKearn.
Our 38 guests enjoyed a private suite above the first-base line with dinner and unlimited drinks and shared stories about sightseeing in St. Louis, which offers the Saint Louis Science Center, the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Butterfly House and Anheuser-Busch brewery tours – to name a few.
The night ended with fireworks and some guests heading to the adjacent Ballpark Village to socialize and enjoy live music.
Young Alumni Dinner
About 30 young alumni (those who graduated in the last 10 years) got together with old friends and met new faces at the Brick House Tavern + Tap in Downers Grove and enjoyed dinner and beer tasting.
Many alumni talked about getting together during the football season, and some discussed the desire to create a place at Huskie Stadium for alumni to stand and cheer for the team.
A couple more young alumni events are planned this year. All alumni and their families are also invited to attend NIU Family Day on Sunday, Aug. 10, at The Morton Arboretum in Lisle. Visit myniu.com to sign up.
Seattle Dinner Cruise
Alumni enjoyed reconnecting with each other and the university as they cruised Puget Sound and Elliott Bay. The evening featured a gourmet dinner buffet prepared by executive chef Christine Keff, who was recognized by the James Beard Foundation as Best Chef of the Northwest.
Travelers on the Alumni Association’s Pacific Northwest travel program joined local alums for the evening. One traveler took the time to snap a pic with Victor E. Huskie! Learn more about travel programs.
