Chessick to Deliver ‘Last Lecture’

Dr. Kenneth C. Chessick, a prominent alumnus, lawyer, physician, and website entrepreneur, will be speaking at the Last Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 24, at the Barsema Hall Auditorium.

The Last Lecture Series, sponsored by the Mortar Board Senior Honor Society, is free and open to the public. It is based on the book, The Last Lecture, coauthored by Randy Pausch, who wrote a final lecture after learning that he had pancreatic cancer. The student-nominated speaker is given the opportunity to deliver what would hypothetically be a final speech before dying.

Chessick has created multiple businesses, such as, and will share his success stories by speaking on “How an Ordinary Guy Can Do Extraordinary Things.”

Besides being a physician and surgeon, he founded the Law Office of Kenneth C. Chessick, M.D., which is devoted to protecting the rights of victims of medical negligence. He earned his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Northern Illinois University in 1984.

He is also a creator, CEO, and chairman of the board of directors of, an Internet marketing company that unites more than 23,000 restaurants and businesses to provide great meals at special prices in all 50 states.

In his spare time, he and his wife, Ellen, have made major philanthropic contributions to NIU. They created the Kenneth and Ellen Chessick Practice Center for NIU athletes, the Kenneth C. Chessick Legal Skills Training Center at the College of Law, and the Kenneth C. Chessick Civil Justice Endowed Scholarship Program.

In addition, Chessick is a member of the board of directors of the NIU Foundation and was awarded the NIU College of Law Alumnus of the Year in 2012 and the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year by NIU in 2001.
