Chicago chef Paul Kahan, B.S. ’86, has been named a 2013 outstanding chef by the James Beard Foundation. According to the foundation, the award is given to “a working chef in America whose career has set national industry standards and who has served as an inspiration to other food professionals.” Kahan shares the prestigious national award with New York chef David Chang.
“It’s not about me,” Kahan told the Chicago Tribune. “It’s about every person who’s worked for me, past, present, and future. It’s an award for all the hard work of over 500 employees. What we do, we do as a team.”
Kahan is the executive chef of One Off Hospitality, the restaurant group behind Blackbird, Avec, and the Publican.
